How to choose tax incentives and grants for game developers in Russia? 🤔
If your studio has been releasing games for several years and earns steady revenue, support measures may sound like something intended for startups, grant applicants, and accelerator participants. Yet for an established business, tax incentives often deliver the greatest benefit: with substantial revenue and a large team, the savings can be significant.
There is no universal solution. Does a particular incentive fit your revenue mix? Can it be combined with Skolkovo participant status? Does the region in which the company is registered matter? As soon as you begin to investigate, choosing the right support measures becomes a quest of its own.
There are many support mechanisms, but selecting the right ones and understanding every requirement without assistance is difficult. The conditions also change: some incentives available a year ago may be restricted in 2026, and certain programs or tax regimes cannot be combined.
The scale of this system is clear from a new study prepared with colleagues from APRIORI, the Internet Development Institute (IRI), and EBR Law Firm. It covers almost every current support measure for the game industry—from tax incentives and grants to acceleration, export, and infrastructure programs.
