It sounds like cyberpunk, but surveillance cameras have long been a common part of the urban environment. For example, in Moscow today it is difficult to find a place where Big Brother’s watchful gaze would not be directed. And now the camera and access to databases literally move to the employee’s face.
In China, smart glasses are planned to be used to patrol streets, manage traffic and check people in traffic. Not through a monitor in the control room or somewhere in a separate data processing center, but right on the spot: I looked at the person - the system immediately gave a hint. It turns out to be a kind of live breakout. It is curious that both the software and the devices themselves are entirely developed by Chinese companies.
Similar scenarios have already appeared in Russia. For example, the Astra Consulting company demonstrated AR glasses for Rostransnadzor inspectors with access to the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. The Skolkovo startup “Digital Inspector” is also working in the same direction, developing solutions for video analytics, monitoring, recording violations and prompt tips for security officers.
Of course, now we are not talking about some kind of augmented reality revolution. In most of these devices, the AR interface looks rather modest: a text hint, status, number or a simple mark in front of the eyes. Sometimes information is generally displayed only in front of one eye 👁
The main conclusion here is different.
The scenario of “breaking a person in real time” is appearing more and more often. However, this used to be infrastructure: large systems running somewhere in the background.
Now this logic is becoming closer, more local and personal. We are gradually moving from large-scale urban surveillance to devices that are directly in the possession of a specific employee. From an abstract “comrade major” somewhere in the server room to an interface right in front of the eyes of the person standing opposite you 🚨
